| Andy On Call Helpful Tips - Painting
- Paint in your socks or bare feet! While you may use tarps or drop
cloths when you paint, many a painter has stepped on a paint spill and
tracked it on clean carpet or floors. If you paint in your socks or your
bare feet, you will feel the paint when you step on it, and won't track it
elsewhere.
- Before starting your paint job, fill a plastic bucket two-thirds with
water and put a scrap washcloth or hand towel in the bucket. Keep the
bucket nearby when you are painting. If you get paint on your hands, dunk
them in the bucket and rinse. If you get paint on the wrong thing, wring
out the towel gently and scrub off the paint mistake. The key is to stop
and erase immediately. While you may be tempted to finish "just one thing"
before you stop to erase--don't; the paint dries quicker than you think.
Wipe off your mistakes right away. This will save you aggravation and keep
you from using colorful language when you paint. This tip only applies to
latex (water soluble) paint.

By Susan Male Smith, R.D.
My friend Caroline recently lamented that all too often, she finds herself wandering the supermarket aisles at day's end in desperate search of something -- anything! -- to serve for dinner that night. Something quick. And easy. But healthful, too, of course. After all, she isn't willing to compromise on her children's health -- or her own. Fortunately, with more and more supermarkets catering to hurried, no-time-to-cook shoppers, it's easier than ever to find dinner fixings without resorting to overly processed, sodium-laden convenience foods.

If eyes are the window to a person's soul, does that mean souls are brown, blue, green, hazel, or black? | Being a Better Buddy
By Cindy Schweich Handler
Toddlers love to play with their pals, but as any parent who's refereed a preschool playdate knows, learning how to get along with each other isn't always fun and games. "Kids this age are the most energetic and impulsive that they're going to be their whole lives, and they have short attention spans," says Michele Borba, Ed. D., author of numerous parenting books, including Nobody Likes Me, Everybody Hates Me (Jossey-Bass). But this is the perfect time for tuned-in parents to teach toddlers the skills that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.
